HACCP system is 12 Steps and 7 Principles based risk based approach to food safety. These steps are:

IFS (International Featured Standard)

In 2002, in order to create common food safety standard, German food retailers from the HDE (Hauptverband des Deutschen Einzelhandels) have developed a common audit standard called International Food Standard or IFS. In 2003, French food retailers (and wholesalers) from the FCD have joined the IFS Working Group and have contributed to development of IFS version 4.

What is the meaning of “Halal”?

Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful. It refers to things or actions permitted by Shariah law without punishment imposed on the doer. It is usually used to describe something that a Muslim is permitted to engage in, e.g. eat, drink or use.

What is Halal Certification?

Halal Certification is recognition that the products are permissible under Islamic law.

These products are thus edible, drinkable or usable by Muslims.

BRC (British Retail Consortium) GLOBAL STANDARDS

The British Retail Consortium is the lead trade association representing the whole range of retailers, from the large multiples and department stores in the United Kingdom. In 1998 the British Retail Consortium (BRC), responding to industry needs, developed and introduced the BRC Food Technical Standard to be used to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products. It is designed to be used as a pillar to help retailers and brand owners with their ‘due

diligence’ defence, should they be subject to a prosecution by the enforcement authorities. Under EU food Law, retailers and brand owners have a legal responsibility for their brands.

In a short space of time, this Standard became invaluable to other organisations across the sector. It is regarded as the benchmark for best practice in the food industry. This and its use outside the UK has seen it evolve into a Global Standard used not just to assess retailer suppliers, but as a framework upon which many companies have based their supplier assessment programmers and manufacture of some branded products.
